From there, we will send you a link to join the club.
Format
Each meeting is expected to run between 1.5 and 2 hours.
We start with a short 15-30 min social period, so that attendees can get to know each other better. New members introduce themselves and state what they are hoping to get out of the club. Existing members call out any successes or insights they have had taking action on a previous book or an area where they are struggling to put an idea into practice.
We allocate 1.0 to 1.5 hours to discuss the book as a group. While the specifics vary by book, we are generally looking to answer the following questions:
- How does the book challenge or reinforce your beliefs about wealth, success, and abundance?
- What action is the book author trying to get you to take? What result is being promoted?
- Does the book offer practical tips for achieving the desired result?
- Are there specific things you plan to change after reading this book? If not, why not? If so, and you have taken steps, what were the results?
- What are the potential limitations of the book’s approach? Does the book address them?
Discussions can be continued via email after the meeting. In rare cases, where a book contains too much information to cover in a single hour, we may use multiple meetings to discuss the book.
Afterwards, we have another 15 minutes to socialize and get to know each other better by following up on different aspects of the discussion.
Rules
- Complete Book Commitment: All members are expected to have finished the book before the meeting.
- Active Participation: Members are expected to contribute meaningfully to discussions. Cameras are encouraged to be on whenever possible. Lurking on meetings and not participating is discouraged.
- Meeting Punctuality: Meetings will start promptly. Late arrivals may be penalized by missing part of the discussion.
- Meeting Preparation: Members should come prepared with specific questions or points to discuss.
- Follow-Up Actions: After each meeting, members should identify at least one actionable step to implement from the book.
- No Sales Pitches: The club is not a platform for promoting personal products or services.
- Open-Mindedness: Members should be open to exploring different perspectives and ideas. All members should be treated with respect, especially when people are presenting opposing perspectives.
- Book Selection: We use on-line voting to determine the next meeting selection. Votes are cast prior to the meeting (deadline midnight the day before the meeting), so that we know next book before the current meeting starts. Members are strongly encouraged to submit books for review and to vote on what we read next.
- Meeting leaders: The leader of the meeting will change for each meeting, with the member who recommended the book (or a delegate) leading the discussion for the meeting.
- Meeting time: The meetings will be at the same time each month (eg 5:00pm PT on the first Wed of the month) at a time voted on by the members in the first meeting. The regular meeting time may change if a majority of members chose to reschedule. The next upcoming meeting time may be changed if the members attending the previous meeting agree to a new time.
The purpose of these rules is to foster a productive, respectful, and challenging community. As a result, violating the rules will result in a member being removed from the group.
